Santa’s Elves have been busy preparing a special delivery for all the cats and dogs that will be spending Christmas Day at SPCA centres across New Zealand. All 40 SPCA centres will receive gift packs from Purina this week full of pet treats, extra snuggly beds, new food bowls and toys to chew, chase or cuddle for the animals to enjoy.
Volunteers who help care for pets during the holiday period, aren’t forgotten either with human treats also included in this special delivery.
SPCA CEO, Andrea Midgen, says that all pet owners know that caring for animals is a 365 day a year commitment. When Christmas comes around, many people ask if SPCA does anything special for the animals.
“Christmas is a special day for most Kiwi families and often our pets are a part of this celebration. At SPCA, Christmas Day, like every other day of the year, sees us care for thousands of animals across New Zealand.
“The SPCA staff and volunteers around the country sacrifice time with their own families to ensure all our animals are fed, walked and cared for on the day. This year, we are thankful to Purina for bringing them some extra Christmas cheer, and grateful for their year-round supply of cat and dog food to ensure that SPCA animals don’t ever go hungry.
“While we can make the day special for the animals, what we really want is for them to celebrate Christmas in their new forever home,” says Ms Midgen.
